In this video, Smithsonian Curator Barbara Clark Smith discusses Powhatan’s perspective with regards to the English.

It is important to consider interactions between Virginia Indians and Europeans from both perspectives. They were both powerful and sophisticated cultures. Their relations with one another were influenced by a variety of factors and changed over time.
